Get your High School Diploma
Through a partnership with the Sault Ste-Marie Adult Learning Centre, we are able to offer the PLAR program. This program allows you to make your work and life experience count towards High School credits and offers a faster path to getting a high school diploma. Not everyone qualifies for this program. Contact us to get more information.
You can complete any of these credits at our Centre
- 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
- 3 credits in mathematics (at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
- 3 credits for group 1, 2 and 3 courses (1 credit in each group)
- 2 credits in science
- 1 credit in Canadian history (Grade 10)
- 1 credit in Canadian geography (Grade 9)
- 1 credit in the arts
- 1 credit in health and physical education
- 1 credit in French as a second language
- 0.5 credit in career studies
- 0.5 credit in civics and citizenship
You may need to upgrade your High School transcript to access a College, University or apprenticeship program. We can look at the post-secondary program your are interested in and determine what courses you need to upgrade.
Get Ready For Employment
Our Get Ready for Work program will give you essential work skills and allow you to access certifications for free. You can complete the program at your own pace at home or come in our Centre to use our computer stations.
As a learner, you can access a variety of human resource moduals. We can put together a package to suit your specific employment training needs.

Preparation for Continuing your Studies
Upgrade courses are intended for students who wish to improve their grades in courses that they have already successfully completed, or attain a higher level in a certain subject for entrance into College or University.
If you’re interested in working in a trade but don’t have the skills or experience to get a job as an apprentice, you can access pre-apprenticeship training. You can receive:
- safety training for skilled trades
- training to improve your academic skills
- basic level apprenticeship training
When in comes to choosing a career, the time and effort you put into getting to know yourself and exploring options will bring you a huge return and help you save time and money in the end. There are assessments and other tools available to help you find the right career path for you.
There are many advantages to online courses; they allow you to learn whenever, wherever, and however works best for you, making it easier to earn a degree while balancing work and family commitments. Without having to attend classes in person, online learning allows you to access programs across the country that might have otherwise been inaccessible or highly inconvenient. Online classes can present unique challenges if you’re not prepared. If you develop skills for effective online learning, you’ll find the courses can be an excellent alternative to a traditional classroom setting.

You might be the type a person that enjoys learning new things. Online classes allow you to access a wide variety of knowledge. You can choose to participate in live sessions at set times or programs that you can complete at your own pace.
Technology has become a part in all aspects of our lives, including crafting. The Wawa Adult Learning Centre has recently acquired Cricut machines that allow you to cut different types of material and create amazing crafts using digital software. This course will give you the basic knowledge around these particular machines and help you gain hands-on experience creating projects using “Design Space”, the digital design program.
To improve your quality of life you may need help in acquiring practical skills set for real-life purposes. For example, you can gain knowledge around:
- Financial literacy (money math, budgeting…)
- Media Literacy (access, evaluate, and create messages through media, recognizing false information…)
- Computer Literacy (ability to use computers; email, MS Office…)
