Get your High School Diploma

Through a partnership with the Sault Ste-Marie Adult Learning Centre, we are able to offer the PLAR program. This program allows you to make you work and life experience count towards High School credits and offers faster path to getting a high school diploma. Not everyone qualifies for this program. Contact us to get more information. 

  • 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
  • 3 credits in mathematics (at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
  • 3 credits for group 1, 2 and 3 courses (1 credit in each group)
  • 2 credits in science
  • 1 credit in Canadian history (Grade 10)
  • 1 credit in Canadian geography (Grade 9)
  • 1 credit in the arts
  • 1 credit in health and physical education
  • 1 credit in French as a second language
  • 0.5 credit in career studies
  • 0.5 credit in civics and citizenship

You may need to upgrades some of you High School classes to access the College or University program you are interested in. We can look at your post-secondary program requirement and determine what courses you need. 

Get Ready For Employment

Our Get Ready for Work program will give you essential work skills and allow you to access certifications for free. You can complete the program at your own pace at home or come in our Centre to use our computer stations. 

As a learner, you can access a variety of human resources courses. We can put together a package to suit your specific employment training needs.

This program is offered in person, twice a week for 4 weeks for a total of 8 classes.

Preparation for Continuing your Studies

Upgrade courses are intended for students who wish to improve their grades in courses that they have already successfully completed. Repeat courses have a condensed assessment workload (fewer or shorter assessments), which may allow students to progress through the course at a faster pace.

If you’re interested in working in a trade but don’t have the skills or experience to get a job as an apprentice, you can access pre-apprenticeship training. The training goes for up to 52 weeks and starts at different times throughout the year. You can receive:

  • safety training for skilled trades
  • training to improve your academic skills
  • basic level apprenticeship in-school training

Pre-apprenticeship training also includes a work placement for eight to 12 weeks.

Whatever you want from a career, it’s a good idea to view the effort you put into finding your best career in terms of an investment. The time and effort you put into making your best choices, at every part of the process, will bring you huge returns in life satisfaction, or in dissatisfaction avoided.

There are many advantages to online courses; they allow you to learn whenever, wherever, and however works best for you, making it easier to earn a degree while balancing work and family commitments. And without having to attend classes in person, online learning allows you to access programs across the country that might have otherwise been inaccessible or highly inconvenient. Online classes can present unique challenges, however, if you’re not prepared. But if you develop skills for effective online learning, you’ll find the courses can be an excellent alternative to a traditional classroom setting.

You might be the type a person that enjoys learning new things. Online classes allows you to access a wide variety of knowledge. You can choose to participate in live sessions at a specific times or programs that you can complete at your own pace. 

Technology has become a part in all aspects of our lives, including crafting. The Wawa Adult Learning Centre has recently acquire a Cricuit Maker that allows you to cut different types of material and create amazing crafts using a digital software. This course will give you the basic knowledge around this particular machine and help you gain hands-on experience with the digital design program through project creation. 

To achieve a great quality of life you may need help in acquiring practical skill set for real-life purposes. For example you can gain knowledge around:

  • Financial literacy (money math, budgeting…)
  • Media Literacy (recognizing false information, social media etiquette…)
  • Health Literacy (mental and physical wellness, nutrition…)

Upgrade your skills for work

To take on more responsibility at work you may require to upgrade your skills. We offer a variety of training to allow you to gain experience for work. If you are an employer, we can also work with you to develop packages that meets your employee training requirements.
